The Peace Corps has three main goals.
- Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
- Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
- Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
As part of my third goal activities I have been corresponding with Spanish classes taught by Ms. deBoer at Aldrich Elementary School in Omaha, Nebraska through the World Wise Schools Program. We started trading emails last spring when we had recently arrived at site and now that the school year has started up again we can continue.
Tomorrow, Ms. deBoer will be showing a slideshow in her class as we video chat live on Skype! I am so excited to hear the questions the students have for me. Last school year they compiled quite a list ranging from what kinds of foods and holidays we have here to how kids are the same or different in Ecuador. I’m sure they have tons of new questions for me and maybe I can teach them some of my favorite Ecuadorian phrases in Spanish like, “ya mismo” or “no sea malit@.”
